Advent Day 11

Solemnity of the Immaculate Conception

Tota pulchra es, Maria,
et macula originalis non est in te.
Vestimentum tuum candidum quasi nix, et facies tua sicut sol.
Tu gloria Jerusalem, tu laetitia Israel, tu honorificentia populi nostri.
Tota pulchra es, Maria.
Mark Shea:  In Honor of the Immaculate Conception  Very interesting!

Msr Charles Pope On the Fittingness and Faithfulness of the Immaculate Conception

Also, on St Ambrose:

“when he read, his eyes scanned the page and his heart explored the meaning, but his voice was silent and his tongue was still . . . we found him reading in silence, for he never read aloud”
Father Z comments on St Augustine's reaction to St Ambrose's silent reading.
He wrote about it last year, too.

More on Silent Reading and Ambrose

"I practice silence, that the verses of my readings and prayers should fill me with delight. And when the pleasure of understanding them silences my tongue, then, as in a dream, I enter a state when my senses and thoughts are concentrated. Then, when with prolonging of this silence the turmoil of memories is stilled in my heart, ceaseless waves of joy are sent me by inner thoughts, beyond expectation suddenly arising to delight my heart." -- St Isaac of Syria.

  1. I just posted on St. Ambrose' basilica in Milan yesterday. The post isn't so much about the man as the building, but I've only just recently become aware of how popular he is with the Milanese, and what a big holiday December 7th is there. I did know previously that he baptized St. Augustine, but that's about it.

I like your new ice blue color scheme, too!

  2. Thanks, Laura! I didn't even know until this year that he was from Milan.
