Our plumber is like that, a good man and father : ). But it's true it's not particularly daring or requiring of physical prowess.Willahttps://www.blogger.com/profile/17374272000644968446noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2039160066439602962.post-23538932905978596952011-10-26T15:49:52.713-07:002011-10-26T15:49:52.713-07:00Oh, Cindy, I never thought about it like this, it&...Oh, Cindy, I never thought about it like this, it's true... what other things beside war are opportunities for man to aspire to that honor?

Some immigrants never accustom or even accept American nationality. Both my husband and I have healthy patriotic feelings for THE UNITED STATES OF AMERICA, not for our home countries. We have deep feelings for our home countries, but we have embraced America as adopted children. I guess sharing the Western roots with our great nation and the fact that we are christians made it easier. I couldn't live in a place I wouldn't accept my man or girls, or myself dying for. And, gulp, that's sobering and I hope to be up to the dulce et decorum myself if the circumstance arrived.

They have extended the military age now, but my dh missed it for two years, otherwise, he would have served. (My husband was playing soldiers when he was a little boy in Malta, and he always took the side of the grays), so he came to the right place when he moved to Texas! :)

Cindy, I'm blaming it to you, now I tell my husband we need to move to Chattanooga, I always loved how the name sounds, now I know I'd love the place thanks to you!Silviahttps://www.blogger.com/profile/17249978624747684879noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2039160066439602962.post-78133645887583783782011-10-26T12:14:58.885-07:002011-10-26T12:14:58.885-07:00Willa,

My own situation with my boys was that I did not realize they would end up in the military and never actively promoted that sort of life. I really do think that while I agree with Owen and Yeats and Sassoon, and I deeply distrust the government, I still think it is good for young men to desire that honor. It is just sad that these days we offer very few opportunities for honor besides war.Anonymoushttps://www.blogger.com/profile/02413838626377092356noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2039160066439602962.post-36403316999674052042011-10-26T04:49:48.330-07:002011-10-26T04:49:48.330-07:00Willa. I do agree with your thoughts, and they are very sobering and relevant at this time.
If we are not actively engaged in defending those values and ideals, at the very list we can show respect and not debunk the dulce et decorum so many not just profess but carry on their life which they also risk for others.Silviahttps://www.blogger.com/profile/17249978624747684879noreply@blogger.com
